Dog Parks:
Healdsburg has two official dog parks.
Badger Dog Park is a 50'x200' fenced area with a nice lawn for tender paws to run on. A shady area with picnic bench, water and an information kiosk. This park is designated for smaller and less active dogs.
From Healdsburg Ave. go east on Matheson. Make a right on Heron Drive, the second driveway is the entrance to Badger Park.
Villa Chanticleer Dog Park is located on Fitch Mountain. It is a 1.5 acre fenced area in a natural setting with mature trees and hills. There is a
nice covered area with picnic benches. Water, toys and an information kiosk is available as well.
From Healdsburg Ave. go east on Powell. Continue all the way up the mountain and follow the signs to Villa Chanticleer. Right before the Villa, make a left and follow the dog park sign to lower Villa parking lot.
Trail: There is a lovely natural trail that follows along the river and leads to a riverbed beach area. At this great swimming heaven for dogs you are
sure to find relief on a hot summer day. Bring your chuck-it and extra tennis balls. The current can be quite strong in the spring so be cautious, but as soon as the dam by Memorial Beach goes up, the river gets almost still and it is safe for our four legged friends to swim.
Follow directions to Badger Park. The trail start directly behind the playground, follow it to the right till you get to an area that opens up wide. Directly across from a stone edged path (that leads left to a private retirement community), follow the smaller trail that leads off to the right, down the hill to the beach. Your dog will love it!!!
Rete's secret skunk remedy: That awful stench! We have the absolute wonder treatment for skunk stench removal. Use 1 small bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tbsp. Dawn dish soap. Mix the three together to create a paste and apply directly to affected area - before wetting your dog!
Since Hydrogen Peroxide is involved use caution around eye area. On darker colored dogs you might experience a little "highlight" effect after the treatment. It is truly a miracle cure - it works immediately!! Rinse paste out thoroughly and shampoo as usual.
